About the role
Prompts are code in our systems: versioned, tested and measured. As a Prompt Engineer you write the instructions that shape how an assistant or agent behaves, and you build the test cases that show whether a change made it better or worse.
The role suits people who write precisely and think systematically. You work closely with AI Engineers, and you will pick up enough Python to run evaluations yourself.
What you will do
- Write and refine system prompts, tool descriptions and output formats.
- Build evaluation datasets from real user questions and edge cases.
- Run prompt experiments across models and compare results with clear metrics.
- Review conversation logs to find failure patterns and fix them.
- Document prompt decisions so the reasoning survives handover.
What we are looking for
- 1+ year working with LLMs - in a job, in research or in serious personal projects.
- Excellent written English and an eye for ambiguity.
- A structured, test-driven approach: you measure rather than eyeball.
- Basic Python or willingness to learn it quickly.
Nice to have
- Background in linguistics, technical writing, QA or data annotation.
- Experience with several model families and their differences.
- Familiarity with evaluation tools such as promptfoo or LangSmith.
Skills and tools
- Prompt engineering
- LLM evaluation
- Technical writing
- Python basics
- Data annotation
Who this role suits
Technical writers, QA testers, linguists and analysts moving into AI - and graduates from any discipline who have spent serious time working with LLMs.
The work behind this role
Prompt Engineer: common questions
Yes. The Prompt Engineer role at MacroCoderz is fully remote and open to applicants worldwide. It is a full-time, entry level position.
1+ year (entry level). Education: Any degree, or equivalent experience - technical or not. Who it suits: Technical writers, QA testers, linguists and analysts moving into AI - and graduates from any discipline who have spent serious time working with LLMs.
Not at the start. The role needs precise writing and a test-driven mindset more than programming. Basic Python helps, because prompt engineers run their own evaluation scripts, and we expect you to pick it up on the job if you do not have it yet.
